About zhangjiajietravelchina — China's Premier Private Tour Specialist
About Us – zhangjiajietravelchina
70,000+ travelers served. 1,200+ team members. 10+ years of delivering China, on our own terms — with our own people, our own vehicles, and zero outsourcing.
Our Story
zhangjiajietravelchina was founded in 2014 with a simple belief: foreign travelers to China deserve better than the bus-tour status quo.
Most tour operators in China are intermediaries. They take a booking, then subcontract the ground operations to whoever is cheapest that week. The guide you get is a stranger to the company. The vehicle is rented. The quality is anyone's guess.
We decided to do it differently.
Starting from Zhangjiajie — the mist-shrouded peaks that inspired Avatar — we built our own operation from the ground up. Today, we have our own fleet, our own guide team, and our own people on the ground in every destination we serve.
What you book is what you get. Always.
The Scale — In Numbers
Seventy thousand foreign travelers have chosen zhangjiajietravelchina since 2014. That is not a marketing claim — it is the direct count of guests who have trusted us with their China experience.
Our team has grown to over 1,200 professionals across operations, guiding, logistics, and customer support. Every one of them is a direct employee, not a freelancer we met yesterday.
We operate in six regions where we have our own people, our own vehicles, and our own quality standards:
Zhangjiajie — Our home base. The Avatar mountains. We started here.
Beijing — The Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Hutongs. Our guides know which doors open at which hour.
Xi‘an — Terracotta Warriors, yes, but also the Muslim Quarter at 6 a.m. before the tour buses arrive.
Tibet — This is the hard one. Permits, altitude, logistics. We handle it all in-house.
Xinjiang — Kanas Lake, the Duku Highway, the Uyghur markets. Our Uyghur guides are locals, not imports.
Chongqing — The mountain city, the hotpot capital, the gateway to the Three Gorges.
What Makes Us Different
We Own Our Fleet
Every vehicle we put you in belongs to us. Not a rental agency. Not a freelance driver we found on an app. Our own fleet, maintained by our own mechanics, driven by our own drivers who know every hill and every shortcut.
When your flight is delayed at midnight, our driver is there — because he works for us, not for a platform.
We Employ Our Guides
Every guide who shows up to lead your tour is a zhangjiajietravelchina employee. They go through our training. They represent our brand. If they don't meet our standards, they don't work here.
They are not reading from a script. They are not taking you to a jade factory disguised as a “cultural stop.” They are explaining the history, the context, and the things that aren‘t in the guidebooks — because they live here.
We Do Not Outsource
This is the most important one.
When you book with zhangjiajietravelchina, every single component of your trip is handled by us. The airport pickup, the hotels, the guides, the vehicles, the train tickets, the permit applications for Tibet — all of it.
Most competitors take your booking and then subcontract the actual work to a local agency they have never met. You are a lead to them, not a guest.
We don’t work that way. You book with zhangjiajietravelchina, you travel with zhangjiajietravelchina. Start to finish.
Who We Serve
Our travelers come from three primary markets, each with different expectations and each fully understood by our team:
Europe — British, German, French, Spanish travelers who value depth over speed. They want the backstreets, the conversations, the context. Our guides are trained for this.
North America — American and Canadian travelers who expect reliability, clear communication, and no surprises. Our operations team provides exactly that, in English, 24/7.
Southeast Asia — Singaporean, Malaysian, Thai travelers who often travel in multi-generational families. Our vehicles are sized for this. Our guides understand the cultural nuances.
We also work with over 200 international travel agencies who trust us as their China ground operator. If you are an agency reading this: we white-label exceptionally well.
Our Team — 1,200+ Strong
Operations Team — 24/7 dispatch, Tibet permit processing, train ticket booking, real-time emergency response. They are the engine you never see.
Guides — Licensed, English-speaking, destination-expert guides in every region we serve. Every one is a direct employee, not a freelancer we found last week.
Drivers — Professional drivers, trained in defensive driving, employed directly by us. They drive our vehicles, not their own.
Customer Support — Pre-trip planning, real-time support while you are on the road, post-trip follow-up. Available in English, Spanish, French, and German.
Content & Training — Continuous guide training, destination research, itinerary development. We employ people whose full-time job is making sure our guides get better every year.
Every new guide goes through a 3-month training program before they lead a single guest. Every vehicle is inspected monthly. Every itinerary is reviewed by someone who has actually been there.
Our Philosophy
No shopping stops. Not hidden ones, not “optional” ones, none. If a tour includes a stop at a tea factory or a jade museum, it is because the traveler asked for it — not because we get a commission.
No hidden costs. The quote you receive lists every expense. If it is not listed, it is not charged.
No “one size fits all.” We don't have a “Beijing in 2 days” product. We have a conversation with you about what you care about, then we build it.
Safety is non-negotiable. We have never had a serious incident in 10+ years. That is not luck. That is our training, our vehicle standards, our guide protocols, and our risk management system — all of which exist precisely because we employ our own people.
Where We Are Going
China's inbound tourism is changing. The visa-free policies are expanding. The payment systems are finally opening up to foreign cards. The railways are connecting more destinations every year.
We are positioning zhangjiajietravelchina to be the first call for any foreign traveler who wants China done properly — with people who actually work for the company that took the booking.
If you are reading this because you are planning a trip to China: get in touch. Tell us what you care about. We will take it from there.
If you are reading this because you are a travel agency looking for a China ground partner: we should talk. We have the scale, the systems, and — most importantly — the people to deliver what you promise your clients.
