Evening — Hongya Cave & Qiansimen Bridge

As dusk falls, the city transforms. Make your way to Hongya Cave (洪崖洞) — an 11-story hillside complex of stilted wooden architecture (Diaojiaolou) glowing with golden lights. Often compared to the floating lights of Spirited Away, it's a warren of local craft shops, snack stalls, and river-view terraces.

After Hongya Cave, walk across the Qiansimen Bridge (千厮门大桥) for the ultimate panoramic view. Morning — Journey to Dazu (approx. 1.5 hours)

After breakfast, depart for Dazu County, home to one of China's most remarkable — and least visited — UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The drive takes you through the rolling hills of rural Chongqing, a landscape of terraced fields and small villages.

Midday — Baodingshan Rock Carvings (宝顶山石刻)

The Baodingshan Rock Carvings are the crown jewel of Dazu. Created between 1174 and 1252 by the monk Zhao Zhifeng over 70 years of devotion, these cliff-side sculptures are unlike anything else in Chinese art. Over 10,000 figures are carved into a U-shaped sandstone cliff, telling Buddhist stories with astonishing detail and emotional power.

• The Thousand-Arm Avalokitesvara (千手观音): A gilded relief with 1,007 arms, each holding a different instrument — recently restored after a 7-year, multi-million-dollar conservation project.

Evening — Return to Chongqing
