China Travel Payment Guide 2026: Deposits, Cancellation Policy & What Every Traveler Should Know
Quick Summary
Planning a trip to China? This guide explains everything you need to know about paying for your tour: how deposits work, which payment methods are safe, and what happens if you need to cancel. We also compare booking through third-party platforms vs. booking directly, and explain why paying your balance after arrival is the safest and most flexible option for European travelers.
If you're planning a trip to China, two questions probably top your list: How do I pay? and What if my plans change? This is especially true for travelers from Europe, where consumer protection and transparent cancellation policies are the norm.
This guide answers all of those questions — clearly, honestly, and in plain English — so you can book your China trip with confidence.
About Us: A Licensed, Trusted Travel Agency
First, a note on trust. LynxTravel China is a fully licensed Chinese travel agency. You can verify us through multiple independent channels:
International platforms: GetYourGuide (GYG), KKday
Chinese platforms: Ctrip (Trip.com), Fliggy
Direct booking: Our official website zhangjiajietravelchina.com
We also support multiple international payment methods (see the "Payment Methods" section below) to make paying from abroad simple and secure.
Two Ways to Book — Choose What Works for You
You can book our tours through two different channels. The main difference is price:
Booking ChannelDeposit RequiredPriceThird-party platforms
(Ctrip / Fliggy / GYG / KKday)30% – 50%Higher (platform commission included)Direct booking
(zhangjiajietravelchina.com)20% – 30%Lower (no platform fees)
Why book directly? You pay a lower deposit, get a better price, and enjoy the same cancellation protection as platform bookings. The choice is entirely yours.
Deposit (Prepayment): Securing Your Itinerary
Once you confirm your tour, a deposit is required to secure your booking:
Third-party platforms: 30% – 50% of total tour price
Direct booking: 20% – 30% of total tour price
The deposit covers advance reservations for hotels, guides, vehicles, and overall itinerary planning — it's the necessary first step to ensure everything is in place for your trip.
Payment Methods: Multiple Secure Options
We offer several payment channels for international travelers:
1. Third-Party Online Platforms
Transactions are recorded and transparent. Recommended for overseas travelers.
2. Our Corporate Account (Business Account)
Traditional bank transfer (to our corporate account)
Business PayPal
Airwallex — accept credit card payments
WorldFirst business account — also supports credit card payments, ideal for European & American customers
3. Personal Account
You may also pay via a personal account of our staff or legal representative. This is common and safe in China. Here's why you don't need to worry:
WeChat Pay, Alipay
Personal PayPal
WorldFirst personal account (can be linked to credit card — useful if you don't have WeChat Pay or PayPal)
Why Personal Accounts Are Also Safe in China
China operates a nationwide social credit and personal credit system. Every personal payment account is real-name authenticated and linked to the individual's national credit record. If someone acts in bad faith — for example, by accepting payment and not delivering the service — the consequences are severe:
The individual is placed on the national discredited person blacklist (失信被执行人名单).
While on the blacklist, they cannot use online services such as ordering food, booking rides, purchasing flight tickets, or taking high-speed trains.
Their credit record is damaged, affecting loans, employment, and business activities.
The blacklist status remains until the dispute is fully resolved and the individual's credit is restored over a set period.
In short: no honest business person in China would risk their personal credit over a single tourist booking. The personal cost is far too high.
How to Verify the Identity of the Person You're Paying
If you choose to pay via a personal account, you should verify the person's identity before transferring any money. Use the table below as a checklist:
Verification MethodHow to Do ItWhy It's Reliable1. Company Email DomainAsk the person to contact you from a company email address (e.g. @lynxtravel.cn). Do not trust personal Gmail, QQ, or Outlook addresses.Only company IT can create a company-domain email. A scammer cannot get one.2. Platform Messaging AccountIf you have a booking on GetYourGuide, KKday, Ctrip, or Fliggy, check the customer service name shown inside the platform's messaging system. The person contacting you should be the same person shown in your booking messages. These platforms verify the business license before allowing any agency to sell tours. The staff name displayed in platform messages is tied to a real, verified account — it cannot be faked.3. Official Website Contact PageOur contact information is published on zhangjiajietravelchina.com. If someone contacts you claiming to represent us, check whether their contact details appear on our official website. We control our website. We will not publish a stranger's contact information on it.4. Stamped Confirmation & Business LicenseAsk the person to send you: (1) a booking confirmation document bearing our company stamp (电子章), and (2) our business license (营业执照). A legitimate staff member can provide both.Forging a company stamp or business license is a serious criminal offense in China. No scammer would risk it.
Important: If the person contacting you cannot or will not provide at least two of the above verifications — do not pay. Only transact with someone whose identity you can clearly confirm.
Are your payments safe? All payment tools listed above operate under China's strict real-name authentication system. Every account is linked to a real person or legal entity, tied to their bank accounts, credit record, and tax identity. This is not a casual setup — it is a regulated financial channel.
What happens if a travel agency cheats customers? Under Chinese law, if a tourism business commits payment fraud or violates consumer protection regulations, the consequences are severe:
The company's business bank account and all linked payment accounts (WeChat Pay, Alipay, PayPal, etc.) are immediately frozen — no funds can be withdrawn.
The company faces heavy fines (up to several times the amount involved).
The travel agency license can be permanently revoked — the company is banned from operating in the tourism industry forever.
In serious cases, the legal representative faces criminal charges and potential imprisonment under Chinese law.
In short: cheating a customer is not worth it. The risk to a licensed agency's business, finances, and reputation is far too high. We have every incentive to treat your booking — and your money — with complete integrity.
Cancellation Policy: Cancel Up to 3 Days in Advance for a Full Refund
Our cancellation policy is based on a "72 hours (3 days) before departure" principle. The exact deduction schedule varies by booking channel.
Note on timing: "Departure day" means the first day of your tour. "X hours before departure" is calculated backward from 00:00 on the departure day.
Example: If your tour starts on November 11, "more than 72 hours before departure" means cancelling on or before November 7. "Departure day" means any time on November 11.

Note: The above reflects platform standard rules. The exact deduction is subject to the实时 terms displayed at the time of booking.

Why are direct booking fees lower? Without platform commissions, we only charge a nominal service fee. However, cancelling on the departure day still incurs a 100% charge, because all resources (hotels, vehicles, guides) are already locked in and cannot be resold.
Balance Payment: Pay After Arrival — Flexible and Traveler-Friendly
We follow a "deposit + balance upon arrival" model. We will never ask you to pay the full tour price in advance.
Normal Process
Pay 20% – 50% deposit when booking (depending on channel)
After arriving in the destination city (e.g., Zhangjiajie), we meet you in person with a POS terminal to confirm the itinerary
Pay the remaining balance using any of the following methods:
Balance payment methods 【Updated】:
POS terminal — swipe international credit card (Visa / Mastercard / Amex, etc.)
Cash (Chinese Yuan, US Dollars, Euros, and British Pounds all accepted — no need to exchange in advance)
PayPal, WorldFirst, or Airwallex online transfer
Once the balance is paid, your tour officially begins.
What If I Already Paid the Balance in Advance and Need to Cancel?
If you paid the balance early for special reasons, the same direct-booking cancellation schedule applies (including 100% deduction on departure day):
More than 72 hours before departure: full refund (deposit + balance)
Within 72 hours: 10% / 20% / 30% service fee deducted, remainder refunded
On the departure day: no refund (deposit + balance both forfeited)
No Refund After Balance Is Paid On Arrival
Once you have paid the balance after arrival, the tour is considered officially started. If you cancel or withdraw for any reason after this point, no refund will be issued — all services have already been arranged and locked in.
Summary: Book with Confidence, Cancel with Flexibility
Whether you book through a platform or directly with us, you will receive a full refund with no deduction as long as you cancel more than 72 hours before your departure date. Please note, however, that cancelling on the departure day itself will result in a 100% charge.
We are committed to transparent, fair policies. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
